Jimy Sloan is a visual artist who calls Prospect, Nova Scotia, home. His painting practice focuses on the creation of spaces exploring depth and texture while transforming figure and form. Painted surfaces are inspired by a broad fascination in semiotics, pop culture, written language, oral traditions and the anthropocene.
Assembled elements of topography intersect, combining with drawn form, creating a unique visual vocabulary. A process-oriented approach to painting and an investigation into materials and pigmentation has created an awareness of the potential to break the image plane, creating visually rich canvas panels, textured environments and abstracted form.
Sloan completed a BFA an NSCAD University in 2012, followed by the NSCAD New Glasgow residency program in 2021. In addition to Studio 21, he is represented in Montreal by Han Modern and Contemporary Gallery. His work can be found in collections across North America.
